IS IT TIME YOU VOLUNTEERED TO RUN THE GAME CLOCK?

2015-11-09

Perhaps no words strike fear into the hearts of hockey parents like the phrase "Can you help run the clock and keep score this game?".

Perhaps no words strike fear into the hearts of hockey parents like the phrase "Can you help run the clock and keep score this game?".
But without these important volunteers the game simply does not happen. The home team is obliged to provide a score and time keeper for every home game or risk having that game defaulted to the opposition.
OCMHA teams have between 12 to 15 players, and play between 7 to 12 home games a season. So, if we all chipped in, you might get tapped to help run the clock and write down the score A GRAND TOTAL OF ONCE OR TWICE A SEASON. Yet team managers struggle to get help, and so the same few parents end up carrying the load for the team.
I've been dissapointed to hear that some teams have had almost no one step up ... to which I can only say its time for a change.
I'm asking that anyone who hasn't made this sort of contribution to find a game that fits their schedule and give this a try. Step up and learn the ropes of running a clock. Others who have done so before will gladly show you how and your child's team will be the beneficiary.

Enjoy the season
