OPH & SportSMART COVID-19 Guidance for Coaches and Safety Officers

On March 4, 2021 Ottawa Public Health's (OPH) Deputy Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Brent Moloughney presented SportSMART during COVID-19: Guidance for coaches and safety officers.  The presentation slides and Q&A are now available:

OCMHA Coaches Meeting with BMHL Referee in Chief - On/Off-Ice Session

On Sunday November 24, 2019 at 6pm OCMHA head coaches are invited to bring their skates, helmets and questions to the Brewer Arena for an on-ice and off-ice session with the BMHL's Referee-In-Chief (RIC) and Director of Officials to review body contact clarifications and other questions related to BMHL rules application.   Please RSVP your attendance to: Jay Illingworth < jzissou@gmail.com >

Here are the details:

  • DATE:  Sunday November 24th from 6:00pm to 7:00pm 

  • LOCATION: Brewer Arena (with rehyrdation and Q&A at The Senate following!)

  • INFO:  On-ice demonstrations and scenarios, followed by off-ice Q&A for remainder of session. 

  • WHO:  Led by Fred Cosgrove (RIC) and JC Beecroft (DOO)

Requirements and Certifications:

  • New coaches are always welcome in OCMHA. Before coaching you will need to complete the "Respect in Sport" and "Gender Identity" courses and obtain a Police Record Check.  In order to be a head coach (Novice to Juvenile) you will need to register for the Coach 2.  Hockey University is a new on-line option for all these.  For a full listing of courses offered locally, see the HEO site here.
